Called to Serve

A recording from Margaret Williams, MS, ACC's live video

What It Means

  • Being called to serve is not about being needed; it’s about being aligned

  • It’s not about saying yes to everything; it’s about saying yes to what matters

  • Service is not sacrifice when it’s rooted in clarity

  • You are not here to carry everything; you are here to contribute intentionally

Based on what lights you up, decide which path is most suitable for you

Recognizing the Call

  • Being called means you see what others overlook

  • You recognize needs, gaps, and opportunities for change

  • You feel the pull to respond, even when it’s inconvenient

Listen to your inner voice, and your heart leads toward success

The Misalignment

  • Calling without boundaries leads to burnout

  • Service without alignment becomes an obligation

  • And obligation will always drain what purpose is meant to fuel

Eliminating narcissism resulting in systemic racial and gender biases

    Discernment in Service

  • Not everything you can do is yours to do

  • Discernment is part of service

  • Just because you’re capable doesn’t mean you’re called

Remaining focused on the mission, everything else is noise

    What Service Is Not

  • Serving does not mean shrinking

  • It does not mean overextending

  • And it does not mean abandoning yourself to support others

    Egos, selfishness, favoritism, nepotism, superiority

    What Service Creates

  • True service creates impact, not depletion

  • It shifts people, environments, and outcomes

  • It leaves things better than they were

    Genuine connections/partnerships are realized

    What You Are Responsible For

  • You are not called to fix everything

  • You are called to respond where you are aligned

  • And to lead in a way that creates meaningful change

Only carry what belongs to you

    Bottom Line

  • Service without clarity leads to exhaustion

  • Service with alignment leads to impact

    Interdependence strengthens collective leadership

    Reflection

  • Where am I saying yes out of obligation instead of alignment?

  • What am I carrying that was never mine to serve?

  • Where is my service actually meant to create impact?

What type of leader do you aspire to become
